Hello from the Savannah Art Association!

The Savannah Art Association was established in 1920 and is the oldest art association in Georgia. Our history dates back to 1917 when the Telfair Academy of Arts and Science established The Telfair School of fine Arts, which was then administered by the Telfair Art Association.

After World War One the Savannah Art Club was formed. The first meeting was held in the home of Mary Comer Lane, wife of Mills B. Lane, Sr. There were 18 charter members who met in homes and later at the Telfair Academy which allowed members to use its space and equipment.

Today, continuing its association with the Telfair, we meet at the Jepson Museum. The Savannah Art Association is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization with written by-laws, and elected Board and various Committee Directors that depend on its members to carry out the functions needed to fulfill its mission. We believe that "Art is good for the soul. . ."
